Lake Avenue House and The Village Cottage’s location on the Leitrim and Fermanagh borders makes it a perfect base to explore the North West of Ireland. There is so much to see and do. The following are just some suggestions.

  • Discover County Cavan
    The Lake Country County. Cavan is buzzing with lively towns and villages, award-winning restaurants, contemporary hotels, outdoor adventure, canoeing, mud buggies, a vibrant arts and theatre scene and friendly people. With spectacular scenery, championship golf courses, walks, cycle routes, museums, heritage and cultural centers, excellent angling, sparkling lakes, cruising and many activities, County Cavan is a popular destination.


  • Fermanagh Tourism.
    Home to world famous attractions such as Belleek Pottery and Marble Arch Caves European Geopark as well as three exquisite National Trust properties, it really won't take you long to discover why so many people come year after year to this truly unforgettable Lakeland County.
  • Slieve Russell Hotel
    The Slieve Russell Hotel and Country Club is renown world wide for its 18 hole championship golf course and is but a 10 minute drive away.
  • Bear Essentials
    Situated in Bawnboy, Bear Essentials with its beautiful showroom hosts Anke's hand made bears that show their own character and personality. Each bear is presented with a detailed Certificate of Authenticity. Classes on the skills of making teddy bears are also available.
  • St Peter’s Church
    St Peter’s Church and Grave Yard are a short walk from Lake Avenue House. From the front of the church there is a beautiful view of Templeport Lake and St Mogue’s Island. There has been a church at this site since the 12th Century. There are Roman references to a church here in 1414 and 1426.


  • Irish Genealogical Research
    The Irish Family History Foundation is the coordinating body for a network of county based genealogical research centres on the island of Ireland. These centres have computerized millions of Irish genealogical records, including church records, census returns and gravestone inscriptions. You will find information here about the Irish Family History Foundation centre in each member county. Through them you can have research carried out on your family history from the millions of records which they have gathered over the years.


  • Tullyhaw Heritage Trail
    Local trail highlighting heritage sites which include: St. Mogue’s Island, Bawnboy Workhouse and The Killycluggan Stone.
  • Marble Arch Caves
    The Marble Arch Caves located in Co. Fermanagh, off Route N87, are a short drive from Lake Avenue House. The Caves are one of Europe’s finest show caves allowing visitors to explore a fascinating, natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers. The Marble Arch Caves are 5 minutes from Florence Court House and 15 minutes from Enniskillen Town.
  • Florencecourt House
    Florence Court is set against the stunning backdrop of the Cuilcagh Mountains. It was the home of the Earls of Enniskillen and is one of the most important houses in Ulster. Five minutes drive from Florencecourt House are The Marble Arch Cave.
  • Enniskillen Castle
    Set in Fermanagh's Lakeland on the banks of the picturesque River Erne you will find Enniskillen Castle. This fine castle, once the home of the Gaelic Maguire chieftains, represents an important part of Fermanagh's rich history and heritage. Exploring the Castle and the Town of Enniskillen would be an excellent way to spend a day.
  • Belleek China
    Once known as the the "Belleek Pottery Works Company" it first conducted business back as early as 1857 manufacturing heavy earthenware and has progressed over the years to become the highly acclaimed creator of fine Parian china which is known the world over.


  • Horse Riding
    Drumcoua Lake Resort set in beautiful Co.Leitrim is but a 10 minute drive from Bawnboy. A stable of horses, including quality American Quarter Horses and European horses is the basis for the Drumcoura Equestrian Activities. We have jumps in a covered arena and two outdoor arenas, trails and a cross-country course.


  • Arigna Mining Experience
    We offer a chance to experience the life of an Arigna miner underground , whilst also taking the opportunity to interpret and preserve the social and mining traditions of the area.


  • Ballyhugh House
    Centre promotes Irish Heritage and Culture through classes and workshops in Art, Crafts, Traditional Irish Music and Dance. Permanent exhibition of local history and photographs from 1870.


  • Cavan Museum
    Cavan County Museum was established in 1996 by Cavan County Council to collect, conserve, document and display all aspects of the culture, history and traditions of County Cavan in an informative and entertaining manner to promote an awareness of Cavan’s rich heritage. On display is the Killycluggan Stone which was found in the local area.


  • Northern Regional Fisheries Board
    Ireland is recognised as being the outstanding angling destination in Europe. Lake Avenue House and the Village Cottage are situated in the Heart of The Lakelands. The vast variety and quality of fishing in Ireland has given the country a reputation of which we are justly proud.


  • Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim
    Located in the heart of Ireland’s enchanting lakeland, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim offers a diverse range of attractions and activities for visitors and holidaymakers.
